Cultural Infrastructure Kista is a programme to introduce a significant and long term cultural layer into the fabric of Kista Science City. KSC is one of the leading international clusters specialising in mobile and network technologies and technology innovation.
Realising Cultural Infrastructure Kista has meant identifying and proposing a number of keys sites through the city and working with the project consortium and the city of Stockholm to realise the vision. The aim is to catalyse new initiatives, realise a sustainable creative culture and open up opportunities for curators and cultural organisations both locally and internationally.
Developed by the Interactive Institute.

Gallerian Art Project - having worked closely with the Gallerian and their architects SSARK for the past year and a half to secure an art project for the new extension. The Gallerian have now commissioned Kista Art City to produce an artwork for the site: an indication of their ongoing commitment to the arts in Kista.
Stockholm Konst Update - we are delighted that the city has commited significant resources to an art programme for Kista. The will be lead by Ann Magnusson in collaboration with Kista Science City and organisations from around Kista. The programme kicks off this Summer with the Gate project in Grönlandsparken, as part of an ongoing programme to revitalise the 'Green Axis' that runs through Kista.

“We won’t bring back the Blue Planet to its pristine state but we can limit the damage if we are given the right tools and the spark of enchantment that will make them pleasurable to handle.”

Red Cross - The Red Cross has been exploring the social landscape of the Kista area for the past year, one that we were pleased to be able to contribute to by introducing the internationally respected social scientist Dr Ester Barinaga who has written extensively on the social impact of technology on the area in her thesis 'The Digital Divide'. This introduces an insightful critique of the social access and usage of technology and it's impact on the area around Kista Science City. The Red Cross have initiated a comprehensive range of social projects from a mural project to hosting Kista Theatre in their new social centre in Husby. Link
Theatre and Social Responsibility - An example of a social integration collaboration has been the coming together of Kista Theatre, Stockholm University and Lansteatern Örebro to bring new forms of theatre to the area. Working with schools around Kista, the result will be the staging of a drama that explores cultural diversity through the eyes of young people. Link
Kista Art City - The art group Kista Art City, who work with grass roots social art initiatives have set up shop in a 'museum without walls' to develop collaborative processes with the local community. We see initiatives like this as being crucial to the integration of accessible cultural engagement in the community, a useful addition to the vision of CIK and the need to develop a rich cultural critical mass. In a tradition that builds upon French philosopher Andre Gide's concept of the Museum without Walls, KAC join with notable international groups exploring notions of artistic autonomy and alternative forms of art practice in the social networking society. More Games on the Streets - Gaming once again hit the streets of Kista with a return performance of Interference the pervasive game experience developed by the Interactive Institute, Swedish Institute of Computer Science and the Frauenhofer Institute in Germany. The project generated a lot of curiosity and excitement in the streets around the galleria and Kista Science Tower as players, masked actors and a large orange doll starred in a dramatic story of occult practice and technology meltdown. We were pleased to support the project to once again bring cutting edge research and social engagement to the area. Link
Video Wall for Kista Galleria - We have been working closely with Kista Galleria and architects SSARK on a proposal to introduce a large scale video wall to the corner of Kista Galleria overlooking the new Torsnastorget. This initiative has the potential to bring a truly international perspective to the cultural landscape of Kista in providing not only a video installation but also the opportunity to stream cultural projects from around the globe to the New Galleria and Kista Science City. The project also links to a unique video installation within the building that draws on the Interactive Institutes expertise in digital culture, interactivity and the moving image. Link
Art and Architecture - After a long collaboration with the City of Stockholm, Explorateringskontoret (planning office) working as Creative Advisors, the city recently appointed Ann Magnusson as Stockholm art's Kista project manager. Ann's task builds on the groundwork done by CIK in identifying areas throughout the area, understanding the social, architectural and commercial needs of the area and integrating it with the visions of the City of Stockholm. This process was also instrumental in informing the architectural process in which Sweco were awarded the contract to develop Torsnästorget. Link Link

After Work Street - 5th October 2007 - Street in collaboration with Interactive Institute and Kista Science City arranged a groovy Friday night event with Brainball, Stand-Up Björn Gustavsson and Neil the DJ.
Sound Inserts - 5th to 6th September 2007 - Interactive Institute Artists-in-residence Ann Rosén and Sten Olof Hellström's temporary sound experiment in Kista. They temporarily placed sound installations in three public spaces in Kista. Berlin Choreographer Ingo Reulecke was invited to observe and interpret people´s reactions.
The experiment's aim was to find out if and how the sound installations affect people’s movement patterns and behaviour in public spaces. The outcome of these explorations was an enthralling dance performance 'Conveyor' at Weld where the projects choreographers worked with the audience in interpreting their findings.
