what is a cultural infrastructure?

Cultural Infrastructure Kista is a framework that adds a dynamic cultural layer to the urban environment. Our aims are twofold: to enliven the everyday cityscape; and develop new means of engaging places throughout the city using a broad spectrum of technology-related works.

In developing the Cultural Infrastructure layer within the fabric of the urban environment, we look for effective and innovative ways to engage and utilise networks, structures and places: Key to CIK is the concept: PEOPLE - PLACE - STORY.

We have been commissioned by the Kista Science City organisation, commercial and property interest groups to develop a comprehensive plan of how to embed a series of dynamic cultural projects within the fabric of the city. Over the coming years, this programme will be developed, evaluated and expanded, acting as a catalyst for encouraging new initiatives and building sustainable and engaging projects and events.

Cultural Infrastructure Kista was devised by John Paul Bichard and Magnus Jonsson at the Interactive Institute Art Productions studio. Working closely with Adiba Cremonini at Kista Science City AB, the property and business boards and the city of Stockholm, the duo developped a series of models and processes to realise their vision.

CIK is run by the Interactive Instiute in association with Kista Science City AB. The CIK consortium comprises the KSC Business board, KSC Landowners board and the Electrum Foundation.

Art Productions are a team of creative advisers at the Interactive Institute working with a portfolio of commercial clients. The focus is on creative conceptual development, innovation transfer and high end cultural production from both within and outside of the Institute. In practice this means evaluating and developing existing and newly generated initiatives and innovations as well as looking for external opportunities. Whilst the team is not research focused, research collaborations are in process and actively encouraged.

Kista Science City AB work to develop Kista Science City into the most attractive area for basing ICT companies. This initiative includes promoting Kista Science City as a location that encourages optimal cooperation among national government, municipalities, and private actors that influence developments in Kista Science City. In addition, this collaborative strategy strengthens and improves networks in and around Kista Science City
